Caramel Chocolate apples

10 large Granny Smith apples
wooden craft sticks
2 (14 ounce) packages individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped
2 T milk or half and half
2 bags chocolate chips

Any candy you want to add to the apples.

1.Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Dip apples into boiling water briefly 2 sec, using a slotted spoon, to remove any wax that may be present. Wipe dry, and set aside to cool. Insert sticks into the apples through the cores.  * The apples will go brown from the water but it does not affect the taste or the texture of the apples and you cant even tell once you have all the caramel and chocolate on them.

2.Line a baking sheet with waxed paper and coat with cooking spray.
3.Place the unwrapped caramels into a microwave-safe medium bowl along with 2 tablespoons of milk Cook on high for 2 minutes, then stir and continue cooking and stirring at 1 minute intervals until caramel is melted and smooth. let stand 1 min before dipping apples

4.Hold apples by the stick, and dip into the caramel to coat. Set on waxed paper; refrigerate for 1 hour to  set.

5.Heat the chocolate in a double broiler until melted and smooth.

6.Dip apples into the chocolate to cover the layer of caramel.  let sit one min then roll in any candy you prefer.Return to the waxed paper to set in fridge for another hour. until set

*Let apples sit out on the counter a few hours before cutting to eat. After the caramel has been in the fridge all night it gets pretty hard. But softens right up after sitting out a little bit.
